How to Grow Wheatgrass At Home

Firstly, why juice yourself?

Many juice bars today offer wheatgrass juice for sale but it can be on the expensive side. Juice bars typically charge RM3.00 upwards per 1 ounce shot of wheatgrass. Powdered or dried wheatgrass is also very expensive, taste terrible and does not have near the health benefits of fresh Wheatgrass juicer.

You can grow a tray of wheatgrass for as little as RM1.20 which will yield anywhere from 10-12 ounces. That's less than 12¢ a shot! Below are 10 easy steps to grow wheatgrass.

Easy Step-by-Step Growing Tips

Step 1: Weigh approximately 200 grams of wheat berry seeds for each planting tray

Step 2: Soak the seeds overnight but never more than 12 hours.

Step 3: Cover the seeds with a wet towel for 24 hours. Rinse the seeds twice with water over this period. This will help the seeds to sprout.

Step 4: Spread the seeds over organic soil in the tray. Seeds should be touching but not over each other. Water generously and cover the trays for two days to help it sprout.

Step 5: Water the tray daily. You should now start on the next batch of wheat grass to ensure that you have a continuous supply of fresh wheat grass.

Step 6: The wheat grass will be ready for harvesting after 7 to 9 days of planting. Cut the grass ½ inch above the soil surface with a pair of clean scissors.

Step 7: Rinse the grass thoroughly and prepare to juice.

Step 8: A low speed juicer is recommended. Alternatively, the juice can be extracted manually using a stone grinder.

Step 9 : Consume the extracted
wheat grass juice immediately.
Nutrients in the wheat grass will begin to oxidize within 15 minutes of juicing.
